• Literacy Centre of Expertise The Immigrant Education Society (TIES). Calgary-based organization offering a collaborative hub and information centre supporting ESL literacy service providers.

Reading Resources (Free)

• Unite for Literacy Web-based picture books at a variety of levels with audio in a variety of languages. Designed for children, but includes many titles suitable for adult emergent readers, approximately CLB 1-4.
• Carrington Readers (downloadable and available for Android / iOS devices). Written for Australian audiences, approximately CLB 1 – 2.
• ESL Literacy Readers (downloadable, printable and web-based with audio). Settlement-focused stories over 7 levels, approximately CLB 1 – 4.
• Kasi and Demi Stories. Series of 10 stories organized into two books, focusing on short vowel sounds.

• Eye on Literacy: Wordless Picture Books for Adult Second Language Literacy Learners. Appropriate for absolute beginners to CLB 1).
• Grassroots Press Photostories. High interest, low-vocabulary books for adult literacy learners. Written for first language adult literacy learning, but still very appropriate for second language learning classrooms.
• Novel Scenes and More Novel Scenes (New Readers Press). Excellent series of chapter books in workbook format at a variety of levels starting at a high beginner level (approximately CLB 3).
